Why Your Past Treatments Didn’t Work — And What Makes Ours Different

One of the most important parts of my job isn’t cracking backs or assigning rehab exercises.

          It’s listening and teaching.

Because understanding your story — what you’ve been through, what matters most to you, and what hasn’t worked in the past — is the key to getting results.

Why do we care so much about your story?

          Because pain is personal.

And rehab has to be too.

Most of the people who walk through our doors aren’t just dealing with pain…

They’re missing out on the life they want.

          - Picking up their kids or grandkids

          - Hitting a workout without fear

          - Saying "yes" to that ski trip or run club invite

          - Or just getting through a workday without shifting in their chair every 10 minutes

          They’ve tried to fix it.

They’ve seen other chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists. They’ve taken medications. Watched YouTube videos.

Maybe even tried just ignoring it.

And that’s where I start hearing the stories...

Here are a few of the most common — and frankly frustrating — things I hear from new patients about their past care:

“They never asked me what I did before I got hurt.”

If a provider doesn’t understand what you want to get back to doing — they’re just guessing. Rehab isn’t a generic routine. Your care should be based on your goals, your body, and your story.

“He told me to take Advil and watch YouTube.”

That’s not care. That’s dismissing someone who’s in real pain. One patient told me this happened during a paid consultation. Imagine how that felt.

“I only saw my chiropractor for 3 minutes.”

Heat pack. STIM machine. Quick adjustment. Done.

Does it feel good temporarily? Maybe.

Does it fix the actual cause of your pain? Not even close.

          Sound familiar?

If any of these stories hit home, you’re not alone. And more importantly — you’re not stuck.

Because now you know what hasn’t worked.

And that brings us one step closer to what will.

At Back in Action Chiropractic, we do things differently:

          - We take the time to understand your pain and your goals

          - We work with you to create a plan that fits your lifestyle

If you’re ready for something different — something that works — let’s talk.

Fix the Root Cause, Fix your Back Pain

Why Does My Back Keep Hurting? Fixing the Root Cause for Good

Back pain is one of the most common problems people deal with. You might feel better after stretching, resting, or getting an adjustment, but then the pain comes back again. Why does this happen?

          Many treatments focus on

           short-term relief

instead of fixing the real reason for the pain. At Back in Action Chiropractic, we take the time to find the

           root cause

so you don’t have to deal with the same problem over and over again.

           What Causes Back Pain?

Back pain isn’t just about your back. It often happens because something else in your body isn’t working the way it should. Here are some of the most common reasons people have back pain:

          - Weak Core Muscles – Your core supports your spine. If it’s not strong enough, your lower back has to work harder, which can lead to pain.

          - Poor Movement Habits – The way you walk, sit, or even pick things up can put extra stress on your back.

          - Tight Hips or Upper Back – If your hips or upper back don’t move well, your lower back has to do extra work, which can cause discomfort.

          - Old Injuries – Ankle, knee, or hip injuries can change how you move, putting strain on your back over time.

           A Different Approach to Treatment

At Back in Action Chiropractic, we don’t just look at where it hurts—we figure out **why** it hurts. Instead of quick fixes, we create a plan that actually solves the problem.

Here’s what makes our approach different:

          -

We take the time to figure out the real cause of your pain

. Instead of guessing, we do a full assessment to understand how your body moves.

          -

We treat the whole body, not just the symptoms.

If your back pain is caused by weak core muscles or tight hips, we’ll make sure to address those areas too.

          -

We make a plan to keep the pain from coming back.

We don’t want you to rely on constant treatments—we want to fix the problem so you can stay pain-free.

Are You Ready to Get Rid of Back Pain for Good?

If your back pain keeps coming back, it’s time to try something new. Instead of just treating the pain, let’s fix the root cause so you can move and feel better long-term.

Clear Expectations and Transparency of Cost

Do you know the biggest concern for most who receive healthcare today?

I’ll give you a few hints:

Its not HOW LONG will I wait to see the doctor?
Its not will I ACTUALLY see MY DOCTOR?
And its not even WHAT IS WRONG with me?

Its HOW MUCH will it cost and to add to that will my INSURANCE COVER anything I need.

One of the leading reasons for bankruptcy in the US is unexpected medical bills.
I’ll tell you my story of my trip to the ER in 2020.

One night, I was playing video games with my wife and I was laying in a terrible position on my stomach. We played for a few hours and then got ready for bed.

Then, it started….

I felt chest pain. Fearful of course with a family history of cardiovascular disease, I called 911 and went by hospital to the ER by ambulance.

After a “standard chest pain work-up”, which to spare you the suspense revealed nothing and it was simply musculoskeletal (thankfully), I was met by the admin who took my insurance card.

She told me the second worst news I could have received that night. My insurance that I purchased was not actually insurance and therefore, my entire visit and ambulance ride would be out of pocket…

My first question was, “Well then what’s the damage gonna be?”

And to that, I received the response that changed my viewpoint of healthcare forever.

She replied, “You’ll get a nice bill from us in a few weeks.”

Long story short the bill for everything was over $7000. And that was pre-inflation madness and can only imagine what it would cost in 2023 dollars.

I took care of it over the course of a few months and from then on out decided to NEVER let my practice give that type of answer to ANY PATIENT EVER.

Teeing Off with Confidence: Managing Low Back Pain for a Return to Golf

           Introduction:

For many golf enthusiasts, low back pain can be a major obstacle when trying to enjoy a round of golf. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, the fear of aggravating your low back issues can be daunting. In this blog post, we’ll explore how to make a smooth return to golf without letting low back pain hold you back.

           1. Consult with a Healthcare Professional:
Before hitting the golf course, consult with a healthcare professional, such as a chiropractor or physical therapist, to assess your low back pain. Their expertise will provide you with a clear understanding of your condition and personalized advice on how to proceed safely.

2. Strengthen Your Core:
A strong and stable core is essential for golfers. It not only improves your swing but also supports your lower back. Incorporate core-strengthening exercises into your fitness routine to help protect your spine.

3. Warm Up and Stretch:
Never underestimate the importance of warming up and stretching before a game of golf. Gentle stretching can increase flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and minimize the risk of injury, especially in your lower back, hamstrings, and hip flexors.

4. Focus on Proper Swing Mechanics:
Golf is a sport that heavily relies on technique. Seek professional instruction and coaching to ensure you’re using the correct form. Proper swing mechanics can alleviate strain on your lower back and enhance your performance.

5. Listen to Your Body:
Pain is your body’s way of communicating. If you start to feel discomfort or pain during your game, take it seriously. Ignoring these warning signs can lead to further injury. Don’t hesitate to seek assistance and guidance.

6. Gradual Progression:
Returning to golf should be a gradual process. It’s important not to push yourself too hard initially. Start with shorter sessions and less strenuous games, then gradually increase the duration and intensity as your back adapts.

7. Consider Supportive Equipment:
Using equipment like a back brace or orthotics specifically designed for golf can provide added support and stability for your lower back. These tools can help reduce the risk of injury.

8. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle:

Overall well-being, including good nutrition and regular exercise, can significantly contribute to managing low back pain. Staying in good physical shape and maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the strain on your lower back.

           Conclusion:

Returning to golf with low back pain is achievable when you approach it with care and the right strategies. By consulting with a healthcare professional, strengthening your core, perfecting your swing mechanics, and paying attention to your body’s signals, you can minimize the risk of low back pain and confidently enjoy your time on the golf course. Remember, a gradual and cautious approach is key to a successful return to the game you love.

How Movement Issues Lead to Shoulder Impingement, Bicep Tendinitis, and Rotator Cuff Tears

           Introduction:

In our previous blog post, we explored how issues like pectoral muscle tightness, latissimus dorsi tightness, and rib cage stiffness can contribute to shoulder pain. Now, let’s take a closer look at how these movement issues can lead to more serious problems, such as shoulder impingement, bicep tendinitis, and rotator cuff tears. Understanding these connections is crucial for preventing and addressing these painful conditions.

           1. Shoulder Impingement:
Shoulder impingement occurs when the tendons or bursa in the shoulder joint get pinched or compressed during movement. The movement issues mentioned in the previous blog post, like pectoral muscle tightness and latissimus dorsi tightness, can result in improper shoulder mechanics. This, in turn, increases the risk of impingement.

           How It Happens:
– Pectoral muscle tightness can lead to rounded shoulders, reducing the space in the shoulder joint and causing impingement.
– Latissimus dorsi tightness may pull the shoulders downward and inward, causing further compression of the joint during overhead movements.

           Prevention and Treatment:
Addressing these movement issues through proper stretches and exercises can help reduce the risk of shoulder impingement. Our previous blog post provides essential tips for tackling these issues effectively.

           2. Bicep Tendinitis:
Bicep tendinitis is inflammation or irritation of the bicep tendon, often caused by overuse or repetitive movements. Movement issues such as tight pectoral muscles and limited thoracic spine mobility can exacerbate this condition.

           How It Happens:
– Pectoral muscle tightness can force the bicep to work harder during arm movements, leading to increased stress on the tendon.
– Limited thoracic spine mobility can cause improper mechanics, placing additional strain on the bicep.

           Prevention and Treatment:
By addressing pectoral muscle tightness and improving thoracic spine mobility, you can reduce the risk of bicep tendinitis. Consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and exercises.

           3. Rotator Cuff Tears:
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint. Movement issues can significantly contribute to the development of rotator cuff tears.

           How It Happens:
– Pectoral muscle tightness can alter shoulder alignment, leading to poor mechanics and an increased risk of rotator cuff injuries.
– Latissimus dorsi tightness can affect the shoulder’s range of motion, potentially overloading the rotator cuff.

           Prevention and Treatment:

To prevent rotator cuff tears, it’s essential to address the root causes discussed in the previous blog post. Additionally, consult with a healthcare professional for tailored exercises and treatments.

           Conclusion:

Understanding the relationship between movement issues and serious shoulder conditions like impingement, bicep tendinitis, and rotator cuff tears is crucial for proactive shoulder health. By addressing the root causes and making necessary lifestyle changes, you can significantly reduce your risk of experiencing these painful conditions and enjoy a life with pain-free, functional shoulders. Remember, prevention is key!

“Shred Safely: Tackling Lower Back Pain for Skiers”

           Intro:

Skiing is a thrilling experience, but lower back pain can put a damper on the slopes. Let’s explore the top three reasons skiers experience lower back pain and discover simple ways to enhance mobility and strength for a pain-free skiing experience.

           1. **Imbalanced Core Muscles:**
Unevenly developed core muscles can lead to lower back strain. Incorporate core-strengthening exercises like planks and side bends into your routine to provide natural support for your body, reducing stress on the lower back.

2. **Limited Hip Mobility:**
Restricted hip mobility is a common cause of lower back pain in skiers. Free up your hips with exercises like hip circles and leg swings. Improved hip mobility ensures smoother movements on the slopes, reducing strain on your lower back. Keep your hips as the pivot point for a more comfortable skiing adventure.

3. **Improper Skiing Technique:**
Technique matters. Incorrect skiing posture and form can stress the lower back. Ensure your stance is balanced and movements are controlled. Consider investing in a lesson from a professional instructor for valuable tips on proper skiing technique, minimizing the impact on your lower back.

           Conclusion:

Embarking on a skiing adventure brings unparalleled excitement, but the elements can pose challenges. Let’s explore the top three considerations for dressing wisely when hitting the slopes, ensuring you stay warm, dry, and comfortable throughout your skiing escapades.

           1. Layering for All Conditions:

Dressing in layers is your best defense against fluctuating mountain weather. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your skin. Add an insulating layer for warmth, and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer to shield against snow and wind. This versatile layering strategy allows you to adapt to varying weather conditions effortlessly.

           2. Protecting Extremities:
Pay special attention to your extremities. Insulate your hands with waterproof and insulated gloves or mittens. Don’t forget a snug-fitting hat or helmet to retain heat and protect your head. Invest in quality, moisture-wicking socks and ensure your boots are waterproof to keep your feet warm and dry throughout the day.

           3. Eyewear Essentials:
Skiing at high altitudes means increased exposure to sunlight and potentially harsh winds. Invest in high-quality, UV-protective goggles to shield your eyes from snow glare and harmful sun rays. Consider interchangeable lenses to adapt to changing light conditions. A comfortable and secure fit is crucial to enjoy clear vision on the slopes.

           Conclusion:

Mastering the art of dressing for skiing conditions ensures you can focus on the thrill of the slopes rather than battling the elements. Layer up for versatility, protect your extremities, and invest in reliable eyewear. With the right gear, you’ll not only stay warm and dry but also enhance your overall skiing experience. Dress smart, embrace the elements, and make each skiing adventure a memorable one!
